Tips for Making Breastfeeding Easier

Breastfeeding a newborn can be a challenging experience at the best of times, let alone running a household and looking after older siblings at the same time. However, with a few tips and a little planning it can be a very rewarding experience for both you and your new baby. You will even get an excuse to put your feet up once in a while!

Plan Ahead

Think of what you need to achieve in a day and plan around your baby’s feeding and sleeping patterns. Babies are usually more settled in the morning after a good feed, so this may be the best time for you to get things done. The best thing about a newborn is that you can work while your baby sleeps or have them near you on a play mat or rocker.

Be Realistic

When breastfeeding a new baby be realistic about what you can achieve and try not to plan too much in the first few months of your baby’s life. Stick to the essentials and live by the to-do list. This will help you to focus on what needs to be done – a must for the sleep deprived brain! Once feeding is established you will feel more confident to take on more.

Buy a pump and express

If you need to spend time away from your baby it is worth investing in a quality breast pump so you can express breast milk for your baby. Your partner or carer can then give the expressed breast milk in a bottle to feed your baby while you are away. Start freezing and storing your expressed milk so you have a good supply built up when the need arises.

Look after yourself

It is important to eat healthy and nutritious meals while breastfeeding, so have a cook up and freeze easy to prepare meals before your baby arrives. Casseroles, soups and lasagnes are good examples and simply add some crusty bread and salad for a healthy meal. Make sure you drink lots of water to keep your fluids up as well.

Ask for help

Don’t try to be superwoman and do everything yourself! The housework can wait and it is much more important to catch up on sleep and rest while you can. Why not hire a cleaner for the first few months or ask a friend or relative to help out. Except any offers of help or food!

‘Me’ time

It’s important to have time out for things you enjoy, even if it is just a walk around the block, a nice hot bath or a quiet cup of tea. You will feel refreshed and as they say ‘When Mum’s happy, everyone’s happy!

Get support

Find like-minded people that can help support and encourage you while you are breastfeeding. Mums are often the best source of advice and knowing that someone else is going through the same thing can be a big relief!

Remember do your best and try not to be too hard on yourself if things don’t go according to plan. Enjoy the early days with your new baby, because they really do go too fast.

Easy salutary morning meal Burritos method

We make these easy salutary breakfast burritos for breakfast and for supper. They are full of protein and taste great any time of the day. This formula is versatile, and you can add any ingredient that is your favorite. It makes great leftovers for lunches the next day, saving you time and money.

Basic breakfast Burrito Recipe:

Healthy Casseroles

2 lb breakfast sausage, from pasture raised pigs
12 eggs, from pasture raised hens
1-2 cups raw cheddar cheese, shredded

This is the simple basic recipe, for when you are in a hurry:

Crumble the sausage in a skillet and cook until done. Crack 12 eggs and stir in, stirring continuously to scramble in with the sausage. When the eggs are done, turn the heat to low and stir in the cheddar cheese. As the cheese begins to melt, cover with a lid and turn off the heat. This allows the cheese to keep melting without all things burning and sticking to the pan. Serve in butter fried tortillas and top with the toppings listed below.

Tater Tot breakfast Burrito

While cooking the basic ingredients, sometimes I pop some tater tots in the oven on a greased cookie sheet to bake for about 20 minutes. When the eggs and sausage are done, I put half the tater tots and half the cheese in the skillet and mix. Then I add the rest of the tots and cheese, stir in, and cover to let the cheese melt.

Other supplementary Ingredients:

Baked or boiled potatoes, cubed
Black beans
Refried beans
Lots of peppers and onions
Chorizo, a Mexican sausage

Toppings:

Sour cream
Guacamole
Avocadoes, sliced
Tomatoes, diced
Green sauce

The more ingredients you put in the burritos, the more range it has and the more it bulks it up to have for leftovers. This gives you a range of nutrients and saves you money by stretching the meal.

salutary Snacks For Runners

If you go running regularly, you know how hungry you can get at times! Running is a great way to burn calories, but the question is that running can leave you feeling ravenous throughout the day.

If you're running to stay fit or lose weight, eating unhealthy foods throughout the day is quite counter-productive. When hunger strikes, most of us are tempted to head for the nearest snack at hand, which most often isn't the most nutritious item. In addition, most of us have a list of unhealthy foods that we love - ice-cream, chips, chocolate and so forth. If you go running regularly, you might find yourself justifying a few regular, unhealthy treats. The question is that those treats do add up!

Healthy Casseroles

In order to stave off the munchies and avoid high-calorie, sugary and fatty snacks, it's foremost to have some salutary snacks at hand. Here are some of my favorites:

1. Yoghurt with Banana

Yoghurt is a great source of calcium, potassium and protein. It's low in fat article and high in carbohydrates. Bananas, on the other hand, are high in carbohydrates as well as potassium. The sugar in bananas is also easy to digest.

Runners need a lot of potassium in their diet in order to alleviate muscle cramps. This helps in having a better run.

Yoghurt with bananas makes a great pre-run snack. Make sure you eat at least 90 minutes before your run.

2. Carrot and Celery Sticks

Carrot and celery sticks make a great snack. Whenever you feel hungry, try a few of these all-natural snack bars. They fill you up, are high in minerals and vitamins, and are extremely low-calorie.

3. Apple and peanut butter slices

You've heard that trite saying, "An apple a day keeps the doctor away" - well, turns out it's kind of true! Apples are extremely healthy, and a good fruit for runners. In addition, peanut butter is a great source of salutary fat and protein. However, make sure you go for peanut butter that's low in added sugar and hydrogenated oils. Eaten together, this is one great tasting snack.

Hopefully, these tips will help you eat more healthfully and become a better runner!

Cooking With Honey - The wholesome Sweetener

If you want to be able to cook sweets without the negative health effects of refined sugar, honey is an perfect option. Among other reasons, honey is metabolized more gradually by your body, meaning that you are less likely to get a sugar "high" after eating something made with honey.

Honey can be enchanting to cook with, though, for any reasons. So many population don't cook with it because they don't know how. But once you know how to use honey in your popular kitchen creations, it's not hard at all to use.

Healthy Casseroles

The first challenge that honey presents is that it burns more surely that normal sugar. This question is normally eliminated by doing your cooking or baking at a slightly lower heat.

The main hurdle to cooking with honey is that it is a liquid. Replacing sugar with honey will ruin some recipes if you don't make an discount for the extra liquid that the honey adds.

Most muffins, simple quick breads, yeast breads, etc you can make the substitution without any adjustment. Cakes, cookies and some other recipes you should decrease the whole of liquid in the formula to account for the honey.

Honey is also very easy to use in pies. Since they are already somewhat liquid, you can replace the sugar with honey. If the pie filling seems too runny, just add a miniature extra thickener before you pour it in your pie shell.

The flavor of honey can sometimes be an issue, but not usually. If you are development a formula that you don't want the flavor to be noticeable, there are any things you can try. First of all, get the mildest flavored honey you can. normally that will be a very pale clover honey. (The paler the honey, the sweeter and milder the flavor, in general.)

If necessary, you can use part honey, and part some other sweetener, such as apple juice concentrate, agave nectar, stevia, or even sugar if you have to.

Top 7 Fatty Spring Foods

BBQ Foods: What a perfect way to enjoy a beautiful spring day with a BBQ! Sure grilling meats is healthier than giving them a dip in a crap load of oil but depending on what you grill your waistline can still take a beating.

Indeed you have your typical things like burgers, hot dogs, ribs and giant steaks, but enjoying these foods will just add more to your fat count. Try to BBQ things like fish, lean meats (poultry), vegetables or fruits. There?s less fat content, they still taste great and have fewer calories than the list I mentioned above.

Rich Dressings and Sauces and Toppings: What could be more tempting than a bowl of strawberries smothered in whip cream, or topping off your hot dog with ketchup, mustard and the ever so fattening mayonnaise. Yep, you can easily make a ?healthy? food into a crazy calorie monster if you?re not careful.

The key here is to choose lighter sauces and dressings, and if you really want some of those rich sauces, just take a dab.

Iced Beverages: What I mean by ?Iced Beverages? are things like iced cappuccinos, iced coffee, rich smoothies, milkshakes, and tropical mixes. You don?t feel it, but liquid calories do add up pretty quickly. Having just 2 iced beverages in one day can increase your caloric intake by 200-500 calories! Yikes!

Creamy Salads: Every time I?m invited to a potluck lunch or dinner there?s always that one person who ends up brining some sort of pasta salad tossed with some vegetables and mayonnaise. And hey who could blame em? its easy to make and doesn?t take much time to prepare. However, it doesn?t matter if it?s a potato salad or chicken salad the point is?it?s drowning in mayonnaise and fat that you should definitely stay away from!

Solution? Keep it simple with a mixed greens salad, its healthier, fresh and guess what?no fat!

Mothers Day Chocolates: You survived Easter, but can you survive Mothers Day? Yes it?s true that dark chocolate holds some benefits but only in small proportions. Instead of chocolates and the hidden fat and sugar, give fruit salads or a gift basket of vegetable seeds, so the person you love can plant their own vegetables ? it?ll keep them healthy and save money at the same time. And if you?re a mother yourself, drop hints for some healthy cookbooks, or new workout attire.

Brunch: Augh! I cringe when I hear this word. Why? Because, if you?re not careful, brunch can literally destroy all your hard fitness, and weight loss efforts. Restaurants usually serve breakfast casseroles or quiches packed with cheese, sausages, butter, cream and cheese that are served with buns, cinnamon rolls, and pastries.

If you?re going out for brunch here?s a fat saving tip for you: Keep it simple.

Go for some eggs, whole grain slices of bread with maybe some jam, and fruit ? simple, delicious and nutritious.

Desserts: Oh yes?I saved the best for last. Desserts. With the warm weather it?s easy to cool off with ice cream, ice cream cakes or things like ?Blizzards? or ?Mcflurries? where the ice cream is mixed with toppings like, Oreos, Smarties, Coffee Crisps and pretty much any other kind of chocolate bar you can think of.

But to be honest this is a pretty easy habit to cut out. Simply replace your ice cream craving with, frozen yogurt topped off with fresh fruit or sorbet. They?re equally refreshing and will cool you down with out the added calories.

No matter what style or type of bistro you choose, the odds are they offer a few more salutary eating options along with the not-so-good-for-you options. To make menu choices easier when eating out, here are a few basic nutritional tips to effect when sitting down to eat at a restaurant:

Choose steamed, Broiled, Baked or Poached vegetables, meats and seafood instead of fried or sautéed. While they might sound tasty, they are probably much higher in saturated fats and not nearly as good for you.

Healthy Casseroles

Drinking water with your meal will also help you feel fuller quicker and help you to avoid overindulging. The high sugar article in some sweetened drinks may genuinely make you feel hungrier, causing you to eat more.

Leave the bread in the kitchen. When your waiter brings the breadbasket, ask him to return it to the kitchen. But, if you have to have the bread, top it with honey instead of butter or margarine.

Top sandwiches with salutary ingredients. always have your sandwiches topped with lettuce, tomato, pickles and mustard instead of mayonnaise, cheese, bacon and extra sauces. Also, opt for whole grain breads or rolls instead of white.

Share sweetmeat (or skip it altogether), and when you just have to have something sweet at the end of a good meal, opt for fresh fruit, icy yogurt or sherbet instead.

Always leave something on your plate. Serving sizes in restaurants today are well past the recommended amounts. Eat to feel satisfied (but not full) and take the rest home in a doggie bag for lunch the next day. Remember, the allowable serving size for meat and fish should be no larger than a deck of cards (that equals about 3 ounces); a ½ cup of cooked rice or pasta should look no larger than a baseball; 1 cup of raw leady vegetables about the size of your fist; and 1 teaspoon of butter or margarine is only the size of your thumb. A Dad's Super Quick, Easy, Inexpensive, and wholesome Chicken Casserole

I love to cook. Some of my fondest memories are when I was a boy watching my mom cook in our kitchen. She made delicious meals. She made delicious casseroles.

If you're a busy parent like me, making ready salutary meals, with small time, can be challenging. making ready a tasty casserole is ideal.

Healthy Casseroles

The following is quick, inexpensive, and salutary recipe.

A Dad's Super Quick, Easy, Inexpensive, and wholesome Chicken Casserole

Shopping for the ingredients...

In my household, we're big on chicken. We love chicken. While grocery shopping, I'll pick up a fresh, pre-cooked chicken from the deli. They usually run around .99 and for the purpose of this recipe, I'll use only half of the chicken.

Next, I'll swing past the pasta and spaghetti sauce isle. There I'll pick up a box (16 oz.) of pasta. My wife and I have two small girls - ages 3 and 6. I'll usually pick a type of pasta that's "fun" for the kids to eat - funny shapes or designs. This will run me around .

After the pasta, I'll move over to the next aisle and pick up three cans of cream soup. I usually select two cans of cream of chicken or cream of mushroom and a single can of cheddar cheese soup - for recipes. These three cans will run me around .50.

Next stop: Beans and veggies. I like Black beans. They're super good for you, lots of fiber, protein, antioxidants and low in calories, and my kids like them. I'll pick up one can for 79 cents. Veggies: I'll pick up a 16 oz. Bag of freezing broccoli florets, or mixed veggies - carrots, corn, beans, peas, Lima beans. My daughters love both types. I'm Very lucky! whether bag will cost me 99 cents.

Last stop: Cheese (In case you didn't notice, I like cheese). For my casserole recipe, I'll pick up an 8 oz. Bag of shredded cheddar cheese. The cheddar gives the dish extra flavor. The cheese will run me .69.

We're done at the grocery store!

Making the dish...

Step 1) I'll remove the meat from half of the chicken, cutting it up into small pieces and placing it aside. Pre-heat oven - 350 degrees.

Step 2) In a 13 by 9 inch glass Pyrex dish I'll mix (evenly distribute) all of the following ingredients:

- Pasta (non cooked)
- Black beans (include bean water from can)
- Veggies
- chicken pieces
- Three cans of soup
- Cheddar cheese
- Season with Mrs. Dash or salt and pepper

Step 3) thoroughly mix all ingredients well.

Step 4) Lightly drizzle 1/4 cup of water or skim milk over the top of the composition (this will sustain with cooking the pasta when in the oven)

Step 5) Wrap glass dish with tin foil.

Step 6) Place in pre-heated oven for 30 minutes. Take out. Stir composition well. Return to oven for someone else 30 minutes at same temperature.

Step 7) remove from oven. Let cool for 10 or 15 minutes (remember, I have two small angels), and serve.

I always cook with the intention of having "leftovers". Typically, there's half of the casserole left. So, this meal will serve a family of 4, contribute leftovers, and will cost around .

Note: To add extra zest or flavor, feel free to add and/or substitute with the following ingredients:

Tuna
Ground Turkey or chicken
Monterey Jack cheese
Parmesan cheese sprinkled on top
Velveeta cheese

Hope you enjoy this as much as my family does!

Summertime Apple & Ginger Spiked healthy Sweet Potato Casserole

Sweet potato casserole doesn't exactly have a healthy reputation. Former recipes typically call for a heavy dose of butter and sugar...and don't forget globs of marshmallow! I'm not sure who started the tradition of turning sweet potato side dishes into a marshmallow mess, but it's been one of those "sticky" trends that stuck. It's also been an unfortunate trend that sweet potato casserole is served only while winter-y holidays. There's verily no conjecture you can't make a "whole foods" version of a healthy sweet potato casserole and serve it in the summer.

Aromatic, pungent and mildly spicy, the increasing of ginger not only adds lots of flavor, but also contributes potent anti-inflammatory benefits. Adding the tart and tangy Granny Smith apples verily help to lighten the dish, development it excellent for the hotter summery months. And, using extra virgin coconut oil instead of butter delivers a tropical, summery taste plus a dose of health-promoting phytonutrients and antioxidants. As for the sweet potatoes, despite their candy-like name, they are surprisingly nutritious. Bursting with anti-aging antioxidants vitamins A and C (both of which are marvelous for protecting your skin from summer sun) sweet potatoes are assuredly a great increasing to any summertime menu.

A Dad's Super Quick, Easy, Inexpensive, and salutary Chicken Casserole

Shopping for the ingredients...

In my household, we're big on chicken. We love chicken. While grocery shopping, I'll pick up a fresh, pre-cooked chicken from the deli. They normally run around .99 and for the purpose of this recipe, I'll use only half of the chicken.

Next, I'll swing past the pasta and spaghetti sauce isle. There I'll pick up a box (16 oz.) of pasta. My wife and I have two petite girls - ages 3 and 6. I'll normally pick a type of pasta that's "fun" for the kids to eat - funny shapes or designs. This will run me around .

After the pasta, I'll move over to the next aisle and pick up three cans of cream soup. I normally pick two cans of cream of chicken or cream of mushroom and a particular can of cheddar cheese soup - for recipes.

Step 1) I'll take off the meat from half of the chicken, cutting it up into small pieces and placing it aside. Pre-heat oven - 350 degrees.

Step 2) In a 13 by 9 inch glass Pyrex dish I'll mix (evenly distribute) all of the following ingredients:

- Pasta (non cooked)
- Black beans (include bean water from can)
- Veggies
- chicken pieces
- Three cans of soup
- Cheddar cheese
- Season with Mrs. Dash or salt and pepper

Step 3) wholly mix all ingredients well.

Step 4) Lightly drizzle 1/4 cup of water or skim milk over the top of the aggregate (this will help with cooking the pasta when in the oven)

Step 5) Wrap glass dish with tin foil.

Step 6) Place in pre-heated oven for 30 minutes. Take out. Stir aggregate well. Return to oven for someone else 30 minutes at same temperature.

Step 7) take off from oven. Let cool for 10 or 15 minutes (remember, I have two petite angels), and serve.

I all the time cook with the intention of having "leftovers". Typically, there's half of the casserole left. So, this meal will serve a family of 4, furnish leftovers, and will cost around .

Note: To add extra zest or flavor, feel free to add and/or substitute with the following ingredients:

Tuna
Ground Turkey or chicken
Monterey Jack cheese
Parmesan cheese sprinkled on top
Velveeta cheese

Hope you enjoy this as much as my family does!

salutary Sweet Potato Casserole - Southern Style

Yams and sweet potatoes have all the time been a Thanksgiving popular for most families-especially in the South! But I'm from Southern California and we do things with the "usual" ingredients and give them a bit of a twist! This dish came about when my sister became a Weight Watcher. She all the time hosts our Thanksgiving potlucks and I am all the time in charge of the "Tuber Brigade" of recipes for our crowd. Not wanting to spoil her Thanksgiving, I came up with this very tasty yet low-fat casserole that has come to be as primary to our holiday celebration as my potato and cauliflower mashers.

The ingredient amounts are adjustable to fit your crowd, I all the time form about 4-6 ounces of sweet potatoes or yams per person. Because of all the fruits, you find yourself eating less of the dish. It's not only full of vitamin A and potassium, but lots of fiber as well!

For two pounds of potatoes have ready:

1 large can sliced peaches in syrup

1 C each prunes and dried apricots, plumped up for 30 minutes in warm orange or pineapple juice (simply put fruit in a saucepan and cover with the juice, bring up to a simmer and then shut off the heat)

1 C fresh cranberries, icy or fresh (defrost if using frozen)

1 to 1-1/2 tsp cinnamon

1 tsp ground ginger

kosher salt and pepper

2 tbsps lite margarine

1/2 C toasted and chopped pecans

Some options that are all the time nice are to also plump up dried pears, dried apples and even for a dissimilar texture of the same fruit-dried peaches. Just remember to also plump them with the prunes and apricots as well.

Scrub and dry potatoes. Bake on a cookie sheet about 40 minutes or about 3/4's of the way roasted. Cool for about 10 minutes. Peel and cut into chucks not too much thicker than the peach slices and prunes.

Combine the potatoes with the peaches, syrup from the peaches, prunes with the juice, cranberries, cinnamon, ginger, salt and pepper to taste. Consolidate well.

Dot with margarine. Bake for about 15 minutes or until potatoes have closed baking. Top with toasted and chopped pecans. Serve.

I came over this method the other day and remembered that it was a tasty, easy and quick to put in order meal that I cooked in the late 70's. I could come home toss the ingredients together and into the oven. Now is the time to modernize the dish, make it healthier, tastier, but still quick to make.

There is nothing wrong with using prepared foods as long as you make those purchases wisely. Fat and sodium, as well as preservatives are leading considerations when choosing products. This casserole will work equally well with the lower fat, lower sodium versions of today's soups.

While the casserole is cooking, make a salad or put in order some fruit to serve along. Supper will be ready in no time.
